About This Beach
Locally famous as Pine Trees, Kohanaiki Beach Park is Kona’s go-to surf playground with multiple peaks along a rugged lava-sand coastline. Facilities include restrooms, showers, pavilions, and day-use parking inside a gated park (hours currently 5:30 am–9 pm; security on site). Camping is by permit only. The shorebreak and currents can be powerful—great for experienced surfers, not ideal for novice swimmers when surf is up. On smaller days, families post up at the pavilions and tide pools, and sunsets here are superb. The access road is paved; drive slowly and pack out everything you bring.
Best Time to Visit: Winter for surf; summer for mellower conditions and family picnics.
Quick Highlights: Consistent surf • Facilities + pavilions • Permit camping • Big sunsets.
