Jacob Riis Park is one of the most iconic Atlantic beaches in NYC and part of Gateway National Recreation Area. Unlike central Rockaway Beach, Riis has a more open, historic feel — wide sand, restored bathhouse architecture, and fewer dense residential blocks behind it.
The shoreline is expansive, and while it gets busy in July and August, the width of the beach helps distribute crowds. It feels less compressed than Brighton or Coney Island.
Riis is a true ocean beach — expect waves, wind, and Atlantic surf conditions.
