About This Beach

North of Kona town by Honokōhau Harbor, this shallow cove is popularly called Kona Dog Beach, with a long-standing local culture of bringing dogs for a splash. There are no facilities or lifeguards at the cove itself; restrooms are at the harbor. Note that parts of the surrounding shoreline fall within Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park, where pets must be leashed and kept out of fishponds and anchialine pools—follow posted rules even if locals treat the area casually. Snorkeling can be surprisingly good in calm conditions, but surge and boat-generated chop are possible. Park at the harbor and walk to the left (south) along the shoreline to reach the sand.

Best Time to Visit: Mornings for calmer water and cooler temps.
Quick Highlights: Dog-friendly vibe (obey leash rules) • Harbor access • Casual snorkeling.
