About This Beach

Not to be confused with Kauaʻi’s dangerous pool of the same name, Keiki Beach (Queen’s Bath) in Kona is a series of tide pools just south of the Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area, accessed from Kona Bay Drive behind the community pool. There’s no shade and no lifeguard; amenities are back at the recreation area. On calm days and around low tide, protected pools warm like bathwater and are popular with families for wading and tide-pooling. Heavy swell can send waves over the outer lava rim—avoid the water during high surf and keep children well inside the innermost pools. Sturdy footwear is essential for the sharp lava.

Best Time to Visit: Calm days near low tide; mornings for lighter winds.
Quick Highlights: Family tide pools • Easy wading on calm days • Close to Kona town.
